The Semiconductor Division of Xandex Inc. is one of approximately 2,000 companies which provide the equipment and materials used to fabricate, test, assemble and package integrated circuits. This multi-billion dollar global industry enables the manufacture of semiconductors which in turn drive over $1 trillion in annual world wide electronic device sales.
The Xandex Semiconductor Division designs, manufactures, markets and services products and equipment for use in the testing of semiconductor devices which are the technology drivers for computers, automobiles, telecommunications products and a vast array of consumer electronics. The Company's products and services enable semiconductor manufacturers to test the integrity of semiconductor devices while in batch wafer form or as packaged chips.
The Company's primary offerings are test interface design and manufacturing services for Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and high speed DieMark® inking systems used to mark defective devices at wafer level test for positive identification during latter assembly and packaging processes.
Xandex sells its semiconductor products directly to end-users and through independent regional distributors. The Company's products are also sold to manufacturers of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for incorporation into their products. Xandex products are distributed throughout North America, Europe, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines from its Petaluma, California headquarters. Via its distributors, the Company maintains regional sales and customer support operations in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the Peoples Republic of China. Each of the Company's distributor facilities is located in proximity to significant semiconductor manufacturing centers.
Privately held, Xandex is ISO 9001:2008 Registered through the National Standards Authority of Ireland. Through out our history and as we face the challenges of the future, our guiding principles are the foundation of our business.
Kamran Shamsavari Xandex Inc. President and CEO
Incorporated August 22, 1980, Xandex was founded by three Fairchild Semiconductor employees and their friends. The founders shared the classic Silicon Valley entrepreneurial spirit -- a desire to create and develop their own start-up. Using their combined sales and engineering expertise, they identified one area of semiconductor manufacturing that needed significant improvement: inking silicon wafers to mark defective die for identification by machine vision systems during the assembly and packaging process.
Until that time, the semiconductor industry used a messy, time-consuming method of inking which left an irregular mark on the die. The Xandex founders focused on creating a uniform, efficient inking method. They also were aware that the industry was quickly moving to automation; any solution needed to take this trend into account.
The original company product -- the first of its type in the arena of semiconductor wafer testing -- was the DieMark disposable-cartridge inker. The DieMark system enabled deposition of up to 150,000 uniform, round ink dots, as small as the width of a human hair, from a single pre-filled, pre-tuned cartridge. The cartridge itself was disposable, consistent, easy to install, use and replace.
In January of 1982, Kamran Shamsavari joined Xandex as President. The Shamsavari family provided funding and leadership in bringing the first DieMark products to market. Leading semiconductor manufacturers immediately accepted the DieMark concept. Texas Instruments became the first DieMark customer and others soon followed.
Today Xandex is the recognized industry leader for wafer marking solutions. The Company offers 236 ink cartridge models and over 150 different inker manipulators to accommodate virtually every test equipment configuration and ink dot need. DieMark inking systems are in use by virtually every semiconductor manufacturer, at over 900 sites around the world.
In 1992, Xandex was the first American-based company to develop and introduce automated solutions for tester/prober interfacing with its patented AutoLoader™ automated probe card changing system. Xandex's portfolio of test interfacing designs has expanded to include solutions for kinematic tester docking, and mechanical/electrical test interfacing.
As semiconductor test technology evolved, Xandex initiated multiple R&D projects to develop new test solutions and commercialize new technologies in the areas of probe card transport, test head to prober/handler docking and high fidelity electrical interconnects. The resulting products gained wide acceptance with OEMs and are in service around the world.
Always driven to discover and develop technology, the Company has, over the years, made passive investments in promising tech start-ups as opportunities presented themselves. In 2005, the Company formalized all investment activity by organizing a wholly owned subsidiary, Xandex Investments LLC.
In 2007, Xandex began a search to find compatible technology sectors where the Company's decades of business, engineering and manufacturing experience could be leveraged. After months of research and investigation into multiple paths, solar energy was the overwhelming choice for a new focus. The Xandex Solar division is the latest chapter in Xandex technology innovation. The Solar Division has launched new product development projects and completed the construction of an outdoor solar lab in fall 2008. Solar Division products are marketed under the SunMizer®
The Shamsavari family, with Kamran as president, continues to lead the company’s management team in the 21st century. The same passion for innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that drove the original product development to world class success continue to be the foundation of the Company's design, manufacturing and global sales efforts.
Xandex's mission is to be the preferred supplier of innovative semiconductor test and assembly solutions worldwide.
